Mods

  • Mo Creatures
  • Ore Seeds
  • Iron Chest
  • RadixCore - supporting software for Minecraft Comes Alive

Forge

Free download
Software that enables you to load mods into Minecraft
One installation file for each version of Minecraft
We will install the appropriate Forge file for Minecraft version 1.8

If you look at this image, all of the mods highlighted in lime green can run at the same time on version 1.8

Steps

1) Backup previous Minecraft worlds

The default directory for your Minecraft worlds is

Note the dot before the word "minecraft", and put your username in instead of yourusername

C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves

Copy the saves folder and put it somewhere else on your computer, just in case anything goes wrong when you're modifying Minecraft by installing mods. It shouldn't be a problem, but it's good to have the worlds backed up just in case.

2) Folders

Create a new folder in your .minecraft folder for mods.
Navigate to your .minecraft folder. You can do this by opening an explorer window and typing, including the % symbols:

%appdata%

and hitting Enter

Open the .minecraft folder.

You should be someplace like this

C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft

There is probably no folder named mods, so create one by right clicking, selecting New and Folder and naming it "mods"
Leave that folder empty for now.
Create a new folder somewhere on your computer to store files you will now download.
These folders do not go anywhere in your Minecraft directories. They are just for storage before we use them.

I have a folder for Forge files and a folder for all of the mods that I want.
The issue is that each mod is designed for a specific version of Minecraft. So you can't run all the mods at the same time in all versions. When you download each mod, it will have a version associated with it and you can only run it in that version of Minecraft.

If you have several mods for the same version, you can run them all at the same time when running that version of Minecraft.

You can arrange your mods according to which Minecraft version they belong to, if you like.

My folders look like:

3) Download Mods

Go here to get mods for version 1.8

On each mod that you want, within version 1.8
Right click on the file name and select "Save target as..."
Save it to the mods folder you just created for downloads.
If you want to play Minecraft Comes Alive, you must also download RadixCore

You must also download the Forge file for 1.8 into a directory that you created.
